Nick Schmaltz is an American professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL). Schmaltz made his NHL debut in the first game of the 2016–17 season against St. Louis Blues. The Blackhawks lost 5-2 in that game. Three days later, he registered his first goal in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators.
He played two seasons for the Blackhawks before he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for forwards Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini on November 25, 2018. He went on to register five goals and 14 points in 17 games, before being hit with a lower-body injury which hindered his season.
