Princess Alexandra Husband: Is Princess Alexandra Married? – Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy KG, GCVO, CD, born on 25 December 1936, is a member of the British royal family.

She shares a close familial relationship with Queen Elizabeth II as they are first cousins through their fathers, King George VI and Prince George, Duke of Kent. Additionally, Alexandra’s mother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, was a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Following her marriage to businessman Sir Angus Ogilvy in 1963, Princess Alexandra became his widow after his passing in 2004. At the time of her birth, she held the sixth position in the line of succession to the British throne. However, as of May 2023, she currently occupies the 56th position.

As the granddaughter of the British monarch through the male line, Princess Alexandra was granted the title of a British princess with the prefix Her Royal Highness.

Upon her birth, she held the sixth position in the line of succession, following her cousins Elizabeth and Margaret, her uncle the Duke of Gloucester, her father the Duke of Kent, and her elder brother Prince Edward. Notably, she was born two weeks after the abdication of her uncle, King Edward VIII.

Princess Alexandra received her baptism at the Private Chapel of Buckingham Palace on 9 February 1937.

Her godparents included King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (her paternal uncle and aunt), the Queen of Norway (her great-aunt), Princess Nicholas of Greece and Denmark (her maternal grandmother), Princess Olga of Yugoslavia (her maternal aunt), the Princess Beatrice (her paternal great-great-aunt), the Earl of Athlone (her paternal great-uncle), and Count Karl Theodor of Törring-Jettenbach (her maternal uncle by marriage). Among her godparents, only the King and Queen and Lord Athlone were in attendance.

During her childhood, Princess Alexandra primarily resided at her family’s country house, Coppins, located in Buckinghamshire. She also lived with her grandmother, Queen Mary, the widow of George V, at Badminton during World War II.

Unfortunately, her father passed away in a plane crash in Caithness, Scotland, on 25 August 1942 while serving in the Royal Air Force. Notably, Princess Alexandra holds the distinction of being the first British princess to attend a boarding school, specifically Heathfield School near Ascot. She further pursued her studies in Paris and received training at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

On April 24, 1963, Princess Alexandra married The Hon. Angus James Bruce Ogilvy (1928–2004), who was the second son of David Ogilvy, 12th Earl of Airlie, and Lady Alexandra Coke. The wedding took place at Westminster Abbey, and it was a grand event attended by the royal family. The ceremony was broadcast on television worldwide and watched by an estimated 200 million people.

Princess Alexandra was presented with an engagement ring featuring a cabochon sapphire surrounded by diamonds on both sides. For her wedding attire, she wore a beautiful gown made of Valenciennes lace, along with a matching veil and train, which were designed by John Cavanagh. Accompanied by her brother, the Duke of Kent, she made her way from Kensington Palace to the church. The bridal party included Princess Anne and Archduchess Elisabeth of Austria as bridesmaids, while Peregrine Fairfax served as the best man. The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Michael Ramsey.

Following their marriage, Angus Ogilvy declined the Queen’s offer to be elevated to the rank of an earl, and as a result, their children do not hold any titles. In 1988, Angus Ogilvy was knighted, and Princess Alexandra assumed the style of The Hon. Lady Ogilvy. He later became a member of the Privy Council in 1997.
