After her high school education which she had at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, Hidalgo proceeded to the prestigious Stanford University, where he earned a political science degree in 2013.

Hidalgo obtained American citizenship the same year. After graduating from Stanford, Hidalgo was awarded the Omidyar Network Postgraduate Fellowship to work with a global organization.

She moved to Thailand to work for the Internews Network, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to educating journalists and promoting press freedom.

Hidalgo faced criticism in March 2019 after speaking at a news conference in both English and Spanish about the potential negative effects of a large chemical fire on human health.

She spoke to reporters from both Spanish and English-language media, as well as constituents. A Chambers County commissioner urged the English in a social media post, “This is not Mexico.”
