Is Wynonna Judd Still Alive? All You Need To Know About Her Life & Whereabouts

American country music singer, Wynonna Judd, real name Christina Claire Ciminella was born on 30th May 1964 in Ashland, Kentucky in the United States of America. She was born to Diana and Charles Jordan who abandoned the mother. Diana proceeded and got married to Michael Ciminella.

Early Life

Judd’s mother, Diana had another daughter with Michael Ciminella named Ashley and had to move to Los Angeles in 1968 but the couple got divorced in 1972. Diana then relocated back to Kentucky with her two daughter, Judd and Ashley in 1976 and that was when Judd developed the interest for country music and she learned how to play the guitar. The two relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1979 to further their musical careers. Christina took the stage name “Wynonna” after the song “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66,” which includes a reference to the town of Winona, Arizona, and where her mother legally changed her name from Diana to Naomi.

As the Judds, Wynonna and Naomi were signed to RCA Records in 1983. The Judds recorded 23 hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles (now Hot Country Songs) charts between 1983 and 1991, 14 of which reached number one. Additionally, they produced two greatest hits collections, a Christmas CD, and eight studio albums. The Judds sold more than 20 million records worldwide throughout their six-year tenure and received more than 60 industry honors, including eight Billboard Music Awards, nine Country Music Association awards (seven of which were consecutive), and five Grammy nominations.

They were the top-selling country music duo at the time and stayed so until Brooks & Dunn overtook them in the 1990s. After a 1991 farewell tour, Naomi was forced to retire due to a persistent case of hepatitis C. Wynonna signed a solo contract with MCA Records in collaboration with Curb Records following the breakup of the duo. For a 1999 New Year’s Eve concert to ring in the year 2000 sponsored by K-Mart, Wynonna reconnected with her mother. In 2000, they started a full-fledged tour together, and Wynonna’s CD New Day Dawning included a special bonus disc with four new Judds songs. For “The Last Encore,” an 18-city tour, the Judds came together once more in 2010. I Will Stand by You: The Essential Collection, which included two new songs and twelve of the duo’s successes, was released by the Judds as a result of the excitement around their tour by Curb Records. The CD was made available on April 5, 2011. The Judds celebrated their 30th year as a recording duet on June 1, 2013.
