Tom Glavine was taken in both the 1984 NHL Draft (4th round, 69th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings and the 1984 MLB Amateur Draft (2nd round) by the Atlanta Braves, and he ultimately chose to play baseball.
He made his major league debut with the Braves in August 1987, but his first two years were up and down. But in 1991, he turned his career around and set the tone as one of the best pitchers of t he 1990s. During the decade, Glavine won 164 games, trailing only teammate Greg Maddux’s 176 wins as a National League pitcher.
