While playing for Arsenal in 2005, Alex and Kelly—who are six years apart in age—had their first encounter.

After moving to the US in 2009, they both signed contracts with the Boston Breakers. Three years later, they came back to the UK to represent the Women’s GB football team at the London Olympics.
